If there's one thing we've learned about pickleball this week, it's that the sport continues to grow and evolve at an impressive rate. With the conclusion of the US Open Pickleball Championships, the announcement of a major tournament in Texas, and the reveal of Fenway Park hosting pickleball games, there's plenty to discuss.
US Open Pickleball Championships: Bigger and Better Than Ever
The Largest Pickleball Tournament in Texas
Over at the Oasis Pickleball Club in Rockwall, Texas, what's considered the largest pickleball tournament in the state took place. With 300 pros and 1,500 amateurs competing on 40+ courts, this event was nothing short of a record-breaking affair. The unique aspect of these tournaments is that amateurs get to play alongside the pros, an opportunity that may not last as the sport continues to grow. This weekend, the pros competed for a whopping $250,000 in prize money and a chance to enter the USA Pickleball National Championships set to take place in Farmers Branch in November.
Pickleball Comes to Fenway Park
In an exciting development, Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox, announced it will host pickleball from July 13 to 16. The event will feature professional and amateur tournaments as well as open play for fans. This endeavor is a collaboration with Pickleball4America (Pickle4), a newly formed organization partnered with the US Open Pickleball Championships. Fenway Park is the first of three ballparks participating in Pickle4’s Ballpark Series, with additional stops at Oracle Park in San Francisco and ending at Coors Field in Denver.
